Level 2 Earth and Space Science
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms G. Thomas.
This course covers a wide range of topics including:
- How Stars and Planetary Systems are formed and change through their life cycles
- The interactions between Earth’s four spheres - geosphere (including plate tectonics) , hydrosphere, biosphere and atmosphere
- Practical investigation into how craters form as a result of asteroid impacts.
- Looking at Extreme Environments on Earth, under the oceans and in Space and the adaptations or technologies which enable animals and humans to survive.
- How energy from the sun and the centre of the Earth drives important earth cycles and processes.
- Exploring contemporary Earth and Space Science issues and how they are portrayed by the media.
Course Costs and Equipment/ Stationery requirements
A workbook is recommended for learning enhancement and the cost of this is S26. There is also a field trip to the Auckland Observatory, the approximate cost of this is $15.
Pathway
This course would be very useful towards careers in all aspects of science and especially: astronomy, meteorology, environmental management, conservation, geology, marine science, and climate science.
