11 Science Skills

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms R. Heeney.

This course is designed mainly for those students who benefit from having additional learning support provided in smaller classes. This course does not lead onto any of the Level 2 sciences. Students cannot self-select into this course. The Learning Centre will decide which students will benefit most from the course. Please direct any queries regarding eligibility for this course to Natasha Muschamp.

In Science Skills we learn about issues in the community - for example the rate of diabetes, vaccinations and COVID-19. We also learn how to carry out an investigation. We also have time to chat about issues that the cohort want to talk about, for example brain disease.

Assessment Information

For this year long course we look at four topics. One is formally assessed and provides opportunity for NCEA Level 1 credits. Other assessments are investigations, posters and any other creative way students can display learning.
