Level 2 Education for Sustainability

Course Description

Mō tātou te taiao ko te atawhai,
mō tātou te taiao ko te oranga.

It is for us to care for and look after the environment to ensure its wellbeing,
in doing so we ensure our own wellbeing and that of future generations.

This course is for those students who are curious to learn about environmental issues and who have a desire to work with each other to develop solutions, act as kaitiaki, and contribute to a healthy environment and society. Students will explore and analyse current environmental issues from diverse perspectives. They will develop self-management, fieldwork, inquiry and social action skills. Students will make contact with community groups and undertake personal action to support the sustainability of current and future generations. 





Recommended Prior Learning

10EVS and/or 11EVS is recommended and would be an advantage, but is not required.

Course Costs and Equipment/ Stationery requirements

Approximately $160 for a trip to Cape Rodney - Okakari Point marine reserves to support learning for AS 90811.

Pathway

This course leads on to Year 13 Education for Sustainability. Further study of Environmental Science, Ecology or Sustainability courses at university.
Careers - an expanding range: ecologist, zoologist, climate change or GIS scientist, scientific officers (for WWF-NZ, UNESCO), research scientists (NIWA, ESR, Landcare), environmental engineer, environmental lawyer, DOC (ranger, pest manager), resource planners in local and regional government, zookeeper, environmental educator, sustainability officer.
