9 Philosophy

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms S. Gunput

This course is designed to develop fundamental skills key to practising Philosophy. Students will engage with social issues, developing a nuanced view of complex problems that affect our society today. The aim of the course is to develop students’ critical thinking skills, an understanding of ethical dilemmas, logical thinking, discussion skills and an ability to structure, Politics, the Nature of Knowledge, the Nature of Existence and whether or not we have Free will.

There will be opportunities for students to develop skills around debating, presenting and discussing alongside the core skills of practising Philosophy. Students’ communication skills and creative thinking skills will develop and the course will also place an emphasis on the core values of Epsom Girls Grammar, namely, Community, Curiosity, Courage and Compassion.

This course will assist in preparing students for their future studies, as the skills they develop, are transferable to their academic and extracurricular activities.
