Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr T. Cook
Design Technology gives students the opportunity to learn how to design, make and test their own creations, acquiring skills and knowledge which are applicable to areas such as product design, furniture design, spatial design and the building and construction industry.
Material and Construction Skills: Students will learn a range of construction techniques using the workshop equipment to make both three dimensional models for testing and fully realised products.
Design: Students will learn how to apply creative and critical thinking to develop purposeful products for others.
Know How Can Do: Students will learn how to use a range of woodworking tools and machinery in the workshop to implement complex skills and techniques to construct a given product.
Design Project: Students will engage with a stakeholder of their choice to develop a product that meets the needs of a user. Students will learn how to design their product ready for manufacture as well as taking into consideration a product’s life cycle and the human factors that can be incorporated into the design of a product.
NOTE: AS 91611 is also used in 13FTE therefore it is advisable not to take 13FTE and 13DET
Course Costs and Equipment/ Stationery requirements
Students taking this course will produce products that will be taken home and therefore will be asked to pay $80 for the cost of materials.
