Course Content:
This course offers three lessons per week and is designed to support students whose first language is not English. It is a cross curriculum programme and gives support and instruction in the four basic strands of language – reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students will increase their understanding of word meaning and usage; language needed in curriculum areas; and English grammar. The course also contributes towards preparing students for the Intermediate English language programme in Year 11.
Term 1
The programme is a topics-based language course which focusses on Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills with an emphasis on grammar and vocabulary. Reading Plus (online reading) and Tense Buster (online grammar) are used to enhance reading skills and grammar learning.

11 English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Students take this subject if English is not their first language and their test results indicate their level of English acquisition is at intermediate level. Students should discuss with their ESOL teacher and English teacher whether they should take this subject.
