Teacher in Charge: Ms R. Heeney.
NOTE: This course cannot be selected alone - you need to choose either 2 or 4 half year courses in Science.
This course is designed to give you a sample of what Biology has to offer. We develop your understanding of the essentials of Biology in an informative, conversational and fun way. Students study genetics and microbiology - both areas of intensive research and practical applications in New Zealand.
Students will look into the use of microorganisms by studying the history, the and science underpinning the relationship between humans and the viruses, bacteria and fungi around us. We will then move onto studying genetics. Again we will look at the history and the biology surrounding our understanding of inheritance and population change. Current and future applications of this knowledge are examined.
This course will set you up for either Year 12 Biology, or if you are not doing Year 12 Sciences, it is great knowledge to help you in any future path.
