Course Description

This course is for students who have not completed year 11 Graphics. Students will complete a fast-track introduction to visual communication skills and then will complete two design projects.

The course has two main areas of learning:

DESIGN: We aim to develop students’ ability to be innovative by developing creativity and critical thinking. Students work on design projects based in fields such as Architecture, Product Design and Graphic Design.

VISUAL COMMUNICATION: students learn to use a range of visual techniques to develop design ideas. These include sketching, instrumental drawing, CAD, modelling and computer graphics applications. Students learn how to visually communicate the details of their ideas to others.

Course content: Students will complete 2 design projects during the year including:

  • Architecture Project: Students will study the work of an Architect. Students will then incorporate the main principles of this study into their own architectural design for a Train Station
  • Product design: Students will use sketching and 3D CAD software to develop a product for everyday use.

Design & Visual Communication is a useful subject for students wishing to gain tertiary qualifications or pursue a career in Architecture, Engineering, Product design, Interior design, Landscape Architecture, Spatial design and Graphic design.
