Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms M. Martin.

Recommended Prior Learning

Year 12 Photography

and/or

Year 11 Photography - this option is for students who have done the year 11 photography course and may have skipped the year 12 course, but can pick it up again in year 13.

During this course students will generate and develop an individually conceived and driven photographic investigation. The thematic study, approach, artist models and technical format will be entirely selected by the student as they work through the challenges and concepts of their investigation. Students will keep a visual diary to research, experiment and document the process of their work. The visual diary is used to assess work for the internal standard while running concurrently with practical investigations for the external folio submission. It also provides the foundation of work presented for the scholarship standard and can be used in portfolios that are required for entrance to the many tertiary art courses available.

The external component is a three board folio submission, due early Term 4.

$60 TAKE HOME COMPONENT - Students taking this course will produce products that will be taken home and therefore will be asked to pay $50 for the cost of materials. Further details are provided at the beginning of year.
STUDENTS OWN DSLR CAMERA - Prefer students to have their own single lens reflex digital camera. We recommend the Canon EOS range e.g 1500D or 200D. Further details of what type of camera to buy are given out at the beginning of the year.
Optional - HIRE SCHOOL CAMERA - $60 per year. The department does have a Camera Hire System which is run via the school library - 'hire agreement' forms are handed out at the start of the year. For students hiring cameras it is highly recommended that students purchase their own 16GB SD card.

INKJET PRINTING - There is an additional cost of $60 for specialty inkjet paper which is optional, but strongly recommended for those printing their portfolio work.
