11 Physical Health Programme
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms C. McConachie.
The Physical Health Programme is a compulsory subject in Year 11.
The course aims to have students:
- Participate in a range of activities to improve and maintain their hauora / wellbeing.
- Develop individual skills in a range of physical activities.
- Learn how to organise and participate in a variety of sports tournaments.
- Identify skills and develop coping strategies and safe practices to minimise risks when faced with changing situations.
- Participate in units covering Mental Health, Sexuality and Relationships, Careers and Drug Education.
Course Costs and Equipment/ Stationery requirements
Students need to bring their own sports clothes / sports shoes to change into for every PE lesson.
When swimming, students need to bring their own swimming togs, towel, swimming cap and goggles.
Pathway
Tertiary education in - Physical Education, Physiotherapy, Teaching, Sports Science, Nutrition, Recreation and Leisure. Careers in - Health and Fitness Centres, Recreation Centres, Regional Sports Trusts, Coaching and Sports Management, Sports Psychology, National Sport Foundations, Public Health Organisations, Medicine, Occupational therapy.
Assessment Information
Students will have the opportunity to gain 5 NCEA credits from AS 92018 ( Demonstrate understanding of the influence of a personal movement experience on hauora ).They will do this by participating in a variety of activities in PE over the course of three terms and completing a portfolio where students explain the influence of different movement activities in their hauora / wellbeing.
