Level 2 Art Design
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms L. Murphy.
Digital and graphic design skills are highly visible and important in today's society. Design, illustration and typography are everywhere around us and they make up much of our digital environment. Level 2 Art Design is a fun, creative course which will develop practical and conceptual design skills including:
- Adobe software skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign)
- Creative problem solving and critical thinking
- Typography, Logo and Layout design skills
- Illustration/Image making skills
- Layout design skills e.g. Magazine, Poster, Website.
At the start of the year the class works through a range of intro tasks together. Students then decide on their folio board focus for the year (within a certain brief). Students are guided to investigate design and illustration styles that suit their strengths and use these to inform the development of a logo design, image making, poster and double page spread design throughout the rest of the year. All of their design work, builds towards a folio board submission in Term Four. There are regular check in dates to help students to manage their time and progress throughout the year.
Students are encouraged to use paper and digital design journals to develop their ideas and thinking skills throughout the year. Creative experimentation. practice with computer skills and regular visual research looking at designers and artists are all important to help students to extend their ideas and skills.
