Level 3 Sports Studies
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms C. McConachie.
This is a highly practical course, focusing on enabling physical activity and developing student’s leadership skills. In this course you will:
- Perform a physical activity, in relation to national standards, in your own sport or another sport learnt in class during the year.
- Develop your coaching and planning skills and improve these over a series of practical lessons where you will coach others.
- Learn about strategies to improve a physical performance. A context that we might use could be training for the physical entrance test for the police or training for your own sport.
- Prepare, participate and reflect on an outdoor experience. This will be in relation to a course camp, which also may require a fee.
Recommended Prior Learning
Satisfactory completion of Year 12 Sports Science or HOD approval.
Course Costs and Equipment/ Stationery requirements
There may be some optional activities offered throughout the year, at student's own cost.
Pathway
Tertiary education in: physical education, physiotherapy, medicine, occupational therapy, sports science, nutrition, recreation and leisure. Careers in: health and fitness centres, recreation centres, regional sports trusts, coaching and sports management, sports psychology, national sport foundations, public health.
Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
Total Credits Available: 23 credits.
