The Health and Physical Education programme at Year 9 focuses on the concept of Wellbeing – physical, mental and emotional, social and spiritual.
Through learning in this curriculum, students will gain the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. They will develop motivation to make informed decisions and to act in ways that contribute to their personal well-being, the well-being of other people and that of society as a whole. They will experience a wide range of physical activities, with the aim of identifying areas of interest and enjoyment that they may choose to participate in, later on in life.
Students will be encouraged to take responsibility for their own health and will learn a wide range of movement skills.
At Year 9 students have 2 periods of PE a week for the year and 4 periods of Health a week for a 10 week block.
We aim to enable every student to have the course that they prefer, however, some courses have limited places or pre-requisits that may restrict the student's choice.
