Course Description

This course will give students a solid understanding of some of the key concepts of Health, to help build a better understanding of topics in the Level 2 and 3 courses.
- We will look at change situations within a Sexuality context and how these can affect our wellbeing, as well as how we communicate with our peers.
- In the Nutrition unit, students will gain an understanding of what influences teenagers in their choice of foods. This helps students understand why they eat the food they do and how this affects their well being. This topic includes some practical activities around food.
- In the Drugs unit, students will have the opportunity to gain NCEA credits. We look at what influences people to take drugs, the effects taking drugs has on your wellbeing and how this can impact people. The assessment is based around decision making in a situation involving drugs or alcohol.
Pathway
NCEA Health will be offered from Level 1- 3. As NCEA Health is a University approved entry course it can lead to many different careers; Doctor, Midwifery, Social Worker, Counsellor, Police Officer, Occupational Therapist, Nurse, Physiotherapist, Teacher, Dietician.
Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
