Course Content:
This course offers twelve lessons per week of English language support for students whose first language is not English. It is a cross curriculum programme with a focus on supporting students to be able to understand the content of their mainstream subjects.
Students will increase their vocabulary, and learn English grammar and spelling. They will develop skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening to help them with both academic and social English. The course also contributes towards preparing students for the English language programme in Year 11.

The following assessments will enable teachers to grade students' English Language Learning Progression and determine their proficiency levels:

Year 10 Common Test for placement (Term 3)
11 English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Students take this subject if English is not their first language and their test results indicate that they need a high level of extra support with English language learning. Students should discuss with their ESOL and English teacher whether they should take this subject.
