The skills developed in Years 9 and 10 are consolidated and extended. Students will learn to interpret data, communicate clearly, think logically, look for patterns and solve problems. The aim of mathematics at this level is to help students understand society and play a responsible part in it. The course is designed to provide a sound foundation for further study of mathematics.
Each student will be allocated a mathematics class based on the recommendation of her teacher in Year 10 and performance in the end–of–year Year 10 common assessment tasks, in consultation with the Director of Mathematics. Students placed in 11MTA classes will have very good grades in the Year 10 examination. Entry to 11MTX, which does a Level 2 maths course, is by invitation only.

Mathematics is a foundation for further study in a range of learning areas including science, commerce, medicine and information science. Satisfactory completion of this course will allow students to proceed to any of the Level 2 Mathematics or Statistics courses.
