Course Description

The Physical Health Programme is a compulsory subject in Year 11.
The course aims to have students:

  • Participate in a range of activities to improve and maintain their hauora / wellbeing.
  • Develop individual skills in a range of physical activities.
  • Learn how to organise and participate in a variety of sports tournaments.
  • Identify skills and develop coping strategies and safe practices to minimise risks when faced with changing situations.
  • Participate in units covering Mental Health, Sexuality and Relationships, Careers and Drug Education.

Assessment Information

Students will have the opportunity to gain 5 NCEA credits from AS 92018 ( Demonstrate understanding of the influence of a personal movement experience on hauora ).

They will do this by participating in a variety of activities in PE over the course of three terms and completing a portfolio where students explain the influence of different movement activities in their hauora / wellbeing.

Tertiary education in - Physical Education, Physiotherapy, Teaching, Sports Science, Nutrition, Recreation and Leisure. Careers in - Health and Fitness Centres, Recreation Centres, Regional Sports Trusts, Coaching and Sports Management, Sports Psychology, National Sport Foundations, Public Health Organisations, Medicine, Occupational therapy.



			
					
					Course Costs and Equipment/ Stationery requirements
										

Students need to bring their own sports clothes / sports shoes to change into for every PE lesson.
When swimming, students need to bring their own swimming togs, towel, swimming cap and goggles.
