Course Description

Course Objectives:

Food Technology teaches students the base nutrition knowledge needed to create an outcome. The skills needed to create a meal/food product and the important health and safety steps that must be followed. Researching, designing, testing, trialing and prototyping a food product. This subject progresses onto Food Technology and Hospitality in senior levels. 

Course Content:

The topics covered in this course include:

  • Health and Safety + Skills - Learn health and safety practices and develop culinary skills. 
  • Nutrition- Develop nutrition knowledge of food groups, nutrients and energy requirements over a day.
  • Kai te Whanau/Family Meal - Design and produce a family meal based on nutrition and stakeholders.
  • Pastabilities - Research, plan, test, trial and evaluate an innovative pasta product.
