9 Te Reo Māori

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms J. Carter

Te reo Māori is one of New Zealand’s official languages alongside English and NZ sign language. New Zealand is the only place in the world where we can learn this precious heritage language and keep it an active and living part of our lives. We hope you will consider learning it. Te reo Māori, like the other languages, has a strong emphasis on speaking.

Year 9 Māori is an absolute beginner’s course as well as for those who may have done some Māori before.

By taking this course, you will be able to talk about the following topics in Māori:

  • Yourself, and your whānau (family)
  • Daily activities
  • Māori culture
  • Food
  • School
  • Home

We also bring the important and inherent values of the Māori such as aroha and manaakitanga ki te tangata (love and support for people). There will also be opportunities for you to learn marae protocol and visit marae.
