Teacher in Charge: Miss R. Gunn.
The Physical Education programme at Year 9 includes learning around five concepts central to te ao Māori. These are Whanaungatanga (making connections), Manaakitanga (accepting others), Kaitiakitanga (caring for the environment), Rangatiratanga (showing leadership) and Kotahitanga (working together).
Through learning in this curriculum, students will gain the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. They will develop motivation to make informed decisions and to act in ways that contribute to their personal well-being, the well-being of other people and that of society as a whole.
In PE, students will experience a wide range of physical activities, with the aim of identifying areas of interest and enjoyment that they may choose to participate in, while at school and later on in life. Activities covered include Gymnastics and Dance, Fitness, Aquatics ( Stroke Development and Surf Survival), as well as a range of team and individual sports.
There is also a free swimming programme offered, for those students who need help improving their swimming technique or learning to swim.
At Year 9, students have 2 periods of PE a week for the year.
Students will be assessed over the course of the year in the following aspects in PE:
Tactical Awareness, Movement Performance, Aquatics and Fitness.
